I bought my mother in law a Chromebook and it might have saved our marriage
I bought my mother in law a Chromebook and it might have saved our marriage The year is 2007. A still ungrayed Barack Obama is just beginning to seek election. The iPhone is announced. The final Harry Potter book is announced. And I graduate college with the now massive seeming Dell Inspiron that I got in 2003 when entering school. My back and shoulders would never be in better shape from carrying it to class.

More than the daddy blues: Paternal Postpartum Depression
More than the daddy blues: Paternal Postpartum Depression How familiar does this sound? “I was so excited during the whole pregnancy. I went to almost all of the doctors’ appointments and ultrasounds with my wife, and read as much as I could. When our baby was delivered, I was psyched. I was worried, but felt I could get things under control. A couple of weeks after we came home, I lost it.

My first week of solo paternity leave with twins
My first week of solo paternity leave with twins “Six weeks? Your company sounds awesome. I wish I could do that.” Yes, I am pretty lucky to work for a company that provides six weeks of paid paternity leave. It’s something I think all companies should offer and already have started seeing benefits. With my wife going back to work after 14 awesome weeks with the boys, it is now my turn to step up and take care of the boys.

Traveling with three month old twins is possible!
Traveling with three month old twins is possible! “You’re staying overnight with three-month-old twins?” I was asked unbelievingly. No one could fathom us trying to get away for the weekend with the boys. We needed it though. After a busy week at work for me and a stressful week at home with the boys for my wife, we craved a weekend away. We normally went with the family to Stone Harbor on the Jersey shore in the late summer, but couldn’t go this year, so we decided to take the boys down to Cape May for some sun and for their first time to the beach.

I’m raising my infants in a brewery
I’m raising my infants in a brewery Four weeks ago we discovered a brewery fairly close to our house that not only allowed children, they actually seemed to encourage it. It’s a small brewery with a familial feel that encourages patrons to sit and enjoy their beer, hanging out all day if desired. Because of the tough permit laws in NJ, they also allow you to bring in outside food.

Brooks Ghost 8 Running Shoe Review
Brooks Ghost 8 Running Shoe Review Brooks just launched their latest upgrade to one of their most popular shoes, the Ghost. With the Ghost 9 coming out, it’s the perfect time to stock up on some Ghost 8s. Thanks to an online sale and an American Express deal, I nabbed two pairs for just over $100. Though each generation gets better with advances in running shoe material technology, the previous generation continues to hold up well.

How I used A / B testing to hack my kids
Test subjects
How I used A / B testing to hack my kids “I wonder how we can get them to sleep more.” This simple thought, expressed by my wife, not even a question, became a challenge to me. My engineer mind took this as a problem to be solved, and when a software developer sees a problem, they devise tests. Luckily, I knew the perfect system for testing out some ideas in a controlled and measurable setting.

Mizuno Wave Inspire 12 Review
Mizuno Wave Inspire 12 Review On Amazon’s Prime Day this year, Mizuno Wave Inspire 12s were on sale for a pretty unbeatable price. I hadn’t tried Mizunos before. I’m more of a Brooks and Saucony runner, it’s just the way I was raised. But I had been seeing the Mizuno bird on the feet of many other runners and decided to give them a shot. I took them out on a 14 mile run to see how they compared.

Kanban and Agile saved our house
Kanban and Agile saved our house “Call the doctor.” “Did you call the doctor today?” “Don’t forget to call the doctor today.” With nine week old twins at home, there has never been a bigger pile on my todo list, less time to do it, and more on my mind making me forget to do any of it. After being reminded the fourth time, I realized it was time to find a system.

Don’t let your kids grow up to be Olympians
Don’t let your kids grow up to be Olympians If you’re like me, you’ve caught olympic fever. Or more likely you catch it every two years but forget how much you like it in between. If you’re like me and have kids, you might start planning which sport your child will participate in every five minutes as you switch between events. I’ve decided the lads will be runners, hockey players, soccer players, rowers, and rapid canoers.
